Climbing the CN Tower and placing 1st! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Martina Brankovsky

On Saturday, October 22, 2011, our very own John Pfeffer (Sunday swimmer) completed the United Way CN Tower Climb.
There are 1776 steps and included 3262 participants. In total $2.1 million were raised.
John won the whole race in just 12:10 minutes
John said it was the first race in his lifetime that he actually won. As a swimmer, he noted that "Everyone complains
about the air quality (in the CN tower) but personally I think breathing is harder when you're swimming."

Congratulations, John!!!

Semi Serious Meet in Etobicoke 2011 PDF Print E-mail

On a sunny Sunday, November 13, 2011 ten Gators made their way out to Etobicoke for the semi-serious swim meet. The met was very well run, the events went fast, the fun part was enjoyed by those who participated and by those who watched. At the end of the meet the swimmers, officials and coaches were rewarded with a very nice lunch.

Taina, Martina, Heather B., Heather Dal, Larry, Brian, Ralph, Hassan, Petere A.T.,  and Colin swam amazing races and relays. Coach Stephen offered his wisdom and recorded the swims.

Lessons were learned:
What food to eat before the meet and what to bring along ( different food for different age groups!)
How many events to sign up for.
Putting relays together may cut into your racing time.
Personal limitations.
"PBs"  can be achieved early in the season.
One could get cold behind the block if there is a delay between "swimmers take your marks" and "go".
Flirting interferes with focus.

If you would like some more information regarding these points you may asked one or all of the swimmers - but you may not get the answers ( does this apply: "what happens in the pool stays in the pool"?). Make sure to come out to the next meet so you will learn first hand.

In all it was a very successful meet, we put our mind to swimming fast, performed and  brought home many ribbons. We had fun, deepened friendships and formed new ones.

Thank you Etobicoke for hosting a great meet.
Thank you Sandy O for coming out to cheer.
Thank you Stephen for volunteering to coach at this meet.
Thank you all Gators for an amazing performance.

"Get the Flash Player" "to see this gallery."

Most Recent Millionaire PDF Print E-mail
Written by Martina Brankovsky

Spot that swimmer who wears that visible orange cap and you will know who is the Most Recent Millionaire (MRM) among us.

This is the swimmer who has swam over 1,000,000 meters and tracked the distance ( www.mymsc.ca). This swimmer will
wear the MRM cap until the next Gator reaches the million meter club and then willingly hand over the cap. The new MRM will
have to go up to the current MRM and demand the cap - and hopefully this process will be done in a very civilized manner.

Should you spot the MRM - give him/her a wave, a wink or some congratulating words. Swimming one million is a big
achievement.

Congratulations to all the Gators who made their first Million!

General Information

  • We are a self operating club.

  • Our goals are fitness fun and friendship with a healthy mix of competition for those interested in taking part in swim meets.

  • We are affiliated with Masters Swimming Ontario (MSO).

  • Our swim season runs from mid-September through to the end of August with breaks over Christmas and the March school break.
  •
  • We offer different session. Last two seasons our Saturday workshop - working more on techniques - was a great success. This season we added the Friday Night session with focus on longer distances and technique.

While we encourage new members to join our club provided space is available, we also need to ensure that new members can be accommodated within a lane of swimmers with similar skill & speed abilities. New members are asked to review the minimum new swimmer requirements (on this website) before coming to a practice.

Members must be 18+ years of age. The club is not designed as a learn-to-swim program. Swimmers need to be able to swim a minimum of 200 yards/meters without stopping and be able to complete a 50 meter swim in less than 90 seconds. Average practice distance is between 2500 - 3500 meters. We have a mix of members including those who are competitively focused and general fitness, along with a number of multi-sport athletes.

In addition to the regular workouts (with excellent on-deck coaching), we offer many club social events including an annual wine & cheese party, ski day, golf days, cycling trip / Island Picnic and our annual Gator Pentathlon Swim Meet. For those interested in competition, there are regularly scheduled meets throughout the GTA & Southern Ontario.
