Like a fish out of the water ? - You tell me!
Friday February 12th, 2010 some Gators made their way up north to ski at the Osler Ski Club. It was the most picturesque day you can imagine. Blue sky, warm sun, perfect snow and only a few skiers on the slopes. The eager ones did get a lot of runs in and some were already exhausted by lunch time.
We meet for lunch and after the afternoon-skiing we also met for a lovely pizza bar right there at the club.
Some notable situations should be mentioned just to fill you in - we are not at liberty to disclose any names:
** One Gator was asked at lunch time if he had seen some other swim club members - to which he answered "yes but the last time I heard them was a loud yell behind me." Having total confidence in the team mates ability to make it down the black diamond hill in one piece that alarming sound did not worry the Gator one bit!
** Two other Gators were found on the south lodge trying to figure out the easiest way back to the main lodge. But they were not in too much of a hurry since they took off their skies and soaked in the sunshine. When time came to put on the skies again one noted that his skies were missing.
** Four skiers shared a lift - one took briefly his eyes off the other one and when he turned towards the person again - that person was no longer on the lift. Story has it that that person bend over to try to pick up a pole from the snow - the seat tilted forward and the person lost the balance and fell off the lift - all very quietly. Mind you - the other person did not confirm the story of the pole.
** After a day of skiing - one Gator wanted to change back into his street cloth and noticed that one of his shoes was missing - instead there was a different one next to his. He decided to have pizza first and than get concerned. The boot is still missing but our Gator was given a pair of jogging shoes from he lost and found box to get home.
** At lunch time we did not read the signs and sat in the Member's only & kids not allowed section - took out our home made lunches and had a great time until someone talked to us and we swiftly moved (sorry Scott and Irene - hope your membership will not be revoked)
** One Gators loves to take all hills in a down hill fashion and avoided to ski any curves. His way of stopping was most interesting.
** Other skiers were very interested in our club ( signs reserved tables and food for us) - we may have been the first swim club they have seen there.
At the end - except for one missing shoe - we gained a lot: we had a very successful day out of the water, proved that we can be active wearing more cloth than usual, ended up with an extra pair of shoes and had a splendid time.
Thank you Scott and Irene for inviting us to your club.
The End.

Dear Pool Superstar,
We are reaching out to you again, to help us with Round 3 of the Aviva Community Fund competition. This is a legitimate and easy way to compete for corporate dollars, but we can only do it with your help. Yesterday, the first day of Round 3, we received 140 votes. This kind of attitude is not nearly enough to continue competing… We must step it up a notch or two or three, and take action!

General Information
- We are a self operating club.
- Our goals are fitness fun and friendship with a healthy mix of competition for those interested in taking part in swim meets.
- We are affiliated with Masters Swimming Ontario (MSO).
- Our swim season runs from mid-September through to the end of August with breaks over Christmas and the March school break
While we encourage new members to join our club provided space is availabe, we also need to ensure that new members can be accommodated within a lane of swimmers with similar skill & speed abilities. New members are asked to review the minimum new swimmer requirements (on this website) before coming to a practice.
Members must be 18+ years of age. The club is not designed as a learn-to-swim program. Swimmers need to be able to swim a minimum of 200 yards/meters without stopping and be able to complete a 50 meter swim in less than 90 seconds. Average practice distance is between 2500 - 3500 metres. We have a mix of members including those who are competitively focused and general fitness, along with a number of multi-sport athletes.
In addition to the regular workouts (with excellent on-deck coaching), we offer many club social events including an annual wine & cheese party, ski day, golf days, cycling trip / Island Picnic and our annual Gator Pentathlon Swim Meet. For those interested in competition, there are regularly scheduled meets throughout the GTA & Southern Ontario.
